What is a LULA Elevator?
Limited use/limited application elevators (LULAs) are an effective way to provide accessibility in existing buildings where full-sized passenger elevators are impractical. From schools to apartments to places of worship and more, LULA elevators are a practical mobility solution.
These compact elevators can travel up to 25 feet high and can typically hold two to five people per ride. In tight or low-rise spaces, LULAs are a reliable accessibility option. Thanks to the wide range of finish and design options available, LULAs are customizable to suit your needs or preferences.

Arrow Lift LULA Elevator Key Features
When space is limited, Arrow Lift LULA elevators fit where others can’t. Explore the space-saving and efficiency-boosting LULA elevator features below:
- Shallowest pit requirements in the industry (13” pit)
- Shortest overhead requirements in the industry (106”)
- Energy-efficient LED lights
- ADA hands-free phone
- Car-mounted directional indicator with audible signals
Compact & Economical
LULA elevators are typically installed in very compact spaces with minimal pit depth and overhead. While size can vary, a LULA elevator car is usually about 4 feet by 4.5 feet in size, for a total of 18 square feet of space inside the elevator car. The design flexibility, along with a power-sipping 2:1 roped hydraulic drive system, results in a total cost of ownership unrivaled by passenger elevators.
Code Compliant
Where installed in suitable applications as permitted by local building codes, LULA elevators are permitted to be used to provide an accessible route between spaces, in compliance with ANSI A117.1 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities. Many buildings can benefit from the addition of a LULA. Common locations include:
- Churches and places of worship
- Schools and universities
- Brewpubs and restaurants
- Medical or professional buildings
