Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What Is a Shaftless Elevator?

A shaftless home elevator is a compact elevator that provides easy movement between 2 floors in a home. Also called “through-the-floor elevators” or “through-floor lifts,” shaftless elevators don’t require extensive construction and can often be situated in tight spaces.

How Much Does a Shaftless Elevator Cost?

Shaftless elevators typically cost between $35,000 and $45,000. Because a shaft does not need to be built, overall construction costs are also usually lower for shaftless elevators than for adding a traditional elevator, but there is still some work by others required. Exact construction costs will depend on your specific home and situation.

How Many People Can Use a Shaftless Home Elevator?

Shaftless elevators are designed to carry one or two people at a time. This depends on the size option and weight capacity you choose.

How Large Is a Shaftless Home Elevator?

Multiple shaftless home elevator sizes are available, from smaller single-rider lifts to wider wheelchair-accessible options. Typical interior of a through-the-floor elevators is between 70 and 78 inches high, 29 to 49 inches deep, and about 21 to 33 inches wide.

What Is the Weight Capacity of a Shaftless Home Elevator?

Depending on the model, a shaftless elevator can hold anywhere from 350 to 500 pounds.

Are Shaftless Home Elevators Safe?

Yes. Shaftless home elevators come equipped with a range of safety features, including alarms, battery backups, and systems to prevent the car from moving when the doors aren’t completely closed. All home lifts are also required to have a phone for emergencies.
