Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What’s the difference between a LULA and other Commercial Elevators?

LULA elevators are more compact than full-size commercial elevators and require a shallower pit but are limited in speed and vertical travel distance. They are designed to add accessibility in locations where a full size elevator would be impractical.

What type of lift is ADA Compliant?

In general, LULA elevators and Vertical Platform Lifts (VPLs) are both considered ADA compliant. Both lift systems are large enough to transport riders in wheelchairs or scooters between floors. On the other hand, commercial stair lifts require any users in wheelchairs or scooters to transfer onto a chair before traveling between floors and are therefore not considered ADA compliant.

How much space does a LULA elevator require?

The amount of space needed to install a LULA lift varies based on several factors. Typically, a LULA lift requires at least 5.5 feet by 6 feet of space for the shaft footprint, though often more. The accessibility lift footprint dimensions are approximate and can vary based on model, number of entrances and exits, car size, and local code requirements.
