What Is a Shaftless Elevator?
A shaftless home elevator is a compact elevator that provides easy movement between 2 floors in a home. Also called “through-the-floor elevators” or “through-floor lifts,” shaftless elevators don’t require extensive construction and can often be situated in tight spaces.
How Large Is a Home Elevator?
Multiple shaftless home elevator sizes are available, from smaller single-rider lifts to wider wheelchair-accessible options. Typical interior of a through-the-floor elevators is between 70 and 78 inches high, 29 to 49 inches deep, and about 21 to 33 inches wide.
PVEs come in options with an interior diameter between 30 inches and 52 inches.
In comparison, a traditional home elevator has a 15 sq.ft. interior cab and typically requires a 5′ x 5′ space for the shaft.
What Is the Weight Capacity of a Home Elevator?
Depending on the model, a shaftless elevator can hold anywhere from 350 to 500 pounds, vacuum elevators have a weight capacity from 350 to 525 pounds, and a traditional home elevator can carry 950 pounds.
How Many People Can Use a Home Elevator?
Shaftless elevators are designed to carry one or two people at a time. This depends on the size option and weight capacity you choose. PVEs have a similar capacity.
Traditional home elevators, however, can often carry 3 or 4 people at once.
Are Home Elevators Wheelchair Accessible?
Many residential elevators are large enough to fit a wheelchair. However, this depends on the type of elevator you’re looking for and its function/purpose.
Are Compact Home Elevators Safe?
Yes. Shaftless and PVE home elevators come equipped with a range of safety features, including alarms, battery backups, and systems to prevent the car from moving when the doors aren’t completely closed. All home lifts are also required to have a phone for emergencies.
All of our private residence elevator models adhere to the ASME Safety Code. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) establishes norms and standards to protect the safety and quality of mechanical devices, such as elevators.
What Happens During the Consultation and Installation?
During your free in-home consultation, an Arrow Lift Elevator Expert will take measurements, discuss options, and provide a quote. If you decide to move forward, our team will order the equipment and help coordinate any work by others that needs to be done before the elevator can be installed. Once all necessary prep work is finished, a team of Arrow Lift-employed, fully licensed Elevator Technicians will install the elevator and show you how to use it.
